Retail - the retail sector in the towns and villages of the Great Lakes are thriving and this is set to continue as the population continues to increase and diversify. A new Aged Care Traineeship initiative developed in conjunction with local employers, high schools and TAFE is providing young people with quality training in this growth industry and will ensure that skilled labour will be available to service this increasingly important sector. Agriculture and agribusiness - the economy of the Great Lakes has a solid, yet diverse, agricultural base including dairy, beef cattle, fruit, aquaculture and wineries. The construction industry in the area continues to be a significant contributor to the local economy with several major residential developments in the pipeline to meet the demands of a growing population.
Creative Industries - the towns and villages of the Great Lakes are home to an increasing number of creative industries and this sector represents a key opportunity for the region due to excellent support in the form of the Great Lakes Arts Network (GLAN).
