Employment in the Retirement & Aged Care Industry
There is a wide range of employment available within this growing sector from nursing to maintenance, business administration and other forms of care support. Positions are usually advertised in the local media. If you already have qualifications, you are encouraged to contact employers in the area directly. Details of many local aged care residential facilities and service providers are listed in the Community Directory.
Training requirements: Generally, to work in a care support position in an aged care residential facility, you will need a minimum qualification of Certificate III (Aged Care). Refer to the above publication for local training providers who can tell you about how you can enter the next available training session.

The Community Visitor Scheme (CVS) is a national program that provides companionship to socially isolated people living in Australian Government-funded aged care homes. The CVS arranges community volunteers to visit selected residents on a regular, one-to-one basis. For further information on the service, contact local coordinator Karen Rudge on (02) 6551 5656.
