NO BULL GOURMET MEATS
2007 Winner Great Lakes Business Awards
Roslyn Tickle and Phillip Turner purchased a shop front butchery at Forster Keys in mid 2006 where they have established the award winning ‘No Bull Gourmet Meats’. Both Ros and Phil had worked in the Taree area up until that time and realised the excellent potential of buying a business in the Great Lakes area, particularly in the continuous growth area of Forster Keys and adjoining areas.
Both Ros and Phil believe the use of only fresh quality ingredients to create their product lines (which they do on-site), ensuring personalized and friendly customer service, being set to cater for individual needs and involvement with the local community has contributed to the ongoing loyalty of their existing customer base and the attraction of many new ones.
Being prepared to do your homework and make calculated risks, thinking outside the square to offer unique quality products and remembering that each customer is an individual has also benefited their continued business growth. Apart from Ros, who looks after the paperwork and Phil, the head butcher, four other butchers are employed to keep the business well run and stocked. No Bull Gourmet Meats also offers a free delivery service and can organize specialized packs for any type of function.
Ros and Phil’s tips for establishing a business in the Great Lakes area include:
- Do your research – find out what people want and determine exactly what it is you can provide – consider your location and what is already available
- Treat your staff well
- Don’t be afraid to be different
- Market through people – always treat your customers well
