Passion for Food, Passion for Business... Pure Greed
Rosalie and Peter Coffey have a passion for food which they have turned into an award winning home based business in the Great Lakes area.
Following ten successful years of operation in the Hunter Valley, Rosalie and Peter moved their four sons and business to Smiths Lake where they had built their dream home with a brand new commercial kitchen.
Their business - Pure Greed - creates exciting, delicious and ultimately memorable foods using quality local ingredients which they source from a network of Mid North Coast growers.
A well as falling in love with the natural beauty of the area, location played a major part in deciding where to locate their business. With key markets in both Newcastle and Sydney, the Great Lakes was perfectly positioned to allow easy and cost effective transport options.
Since arriving in Smiths Lakes, the Pure Greed brand has gone from strength to strength with new products being added to the range and new markets explored. Competing and winning national, state and local product and business awards has aided the expansion with Pure Greed becoming a brand recognised for quality in many a gourmet food outlet across NSW and beyond.
Rosalie Cofey, founder and executive food producer of Pure Greed, is a strong advocate for home based business due to the ability to balance work - life commitments more effectively, and is very proud of achievement in winning the 2006 Great Lakes Home Based Business Award.
Rosalie says that her passion for food has helped to drive the business forward but that good management skills are essential in order to succeed including identifying and updating training needs as the business grows.
Keeping a healthy body as well as a healthy business is also a key to Rosalie's success and the pristine environment and idyllic climate of the Great Lakes certainly helps with this!!
Rosalie's tips to anyone considering establishing or expanding up a business in the Great Lake area are:
- Be passionate about your business. That is what gets you through the hard times (and there will be hard times!!)
- Do your homework! Know your markets and your customers. Anticipate their needs and deliver above their expectations.
- Seek out help and assistance - there is a lot out there! Both the State and Federal government have excellent sources of information and government funding programs to help your business expand.
- Support each other and support your local community.
